Permanent Makeup Tattoo FAQ’s

Here are some faqs regarding permanent makeup.

  • Permanent makeup goes by many names, permanent cosmetics, micro pigmentation & cosmetic tattooing. Whatever term you prefer, it is the enhancement of the face and skin with specially formulated pigments designed for use on the face, that are implanted into the upper dermis layer of the skin. Microink follows the strictest hygiene and sterilization procedures. All equipment is sterile, including the use of disposable needles. Only the highest quality equipment and pigments are used. Strict OSHA and CDC guidelines are followed.

  • In a consultation appointment, we discuss the procedures you would like performed (Brows, lips, liner, freckles). You can ask any questions regarding each procedure. With brows, we “pre draw” your custom desired design on your skin with a makeup pencil so you can see the proposed shape. We then go over complimentary colors according to your skin tone. We also go over any medical health issues and/or allergies. We will also go over after care instructions and I will inform you of the healing stages. Unless you need a consultation to make your decision, we suggest you schedule your 2-hour service appointment and do both the consultation and application at the same time.

  • Results are seen immediately although the full end result is seen in approximately four to six weeks. The color will soften and the light crusting will be almost gone in 7-15 days. Most procedures require a follow-up appointment. Follow-up appointments are scheduled 6 weeks later. Keeping the area free from bacteria is vital to preventing an infection during the healing process. Cosmetics should not be used on or around the treated area until it is closed and fully healed, which is roughly 5-15 days depending on your service and your typical healing pattern.

  • This varies from person to person. A topical anesthetic is applied prior to and during each procedure to numb the skin. Each person might have an area that is more sensitive than another, although we try to keep you comfortable and relaxed. Clients usually have an idea how well they numb based on their experience at the dentist. Some people are so relaxed they fall asleep. Average client rates the pain a 3 out of 10.

  • Saline removal is done by using a tattoo needle and the science of osmosis to quite literally pull the pigments to the skin’s surface. The skin then scabs, heals and the tattoo becomes lighter and lighter as the pigments and inks fade away. Lightening of the treated area usually begins after the 2nd or 3rd session, but it could take many sessions to completely remove the tattoo. There is no such thing as a quick fix! Saline removal doesn’t differentiate between pigment or ink and has been proven to reduce and remove the majority of eyebrow tattoos. Saline removal is only recommended for small areas. We’d suggest lasers for larger body tattoos and eyeliner.

  • We believe in saline eyebrow tattoo removal as the best method for removal of permanent makeup for many reasons. Here are a few reasons we recommend saline over other methods:

Gentle and Effective: Saline leaves your skin intact, unlike dermabrasion. It is by far one of the least painful ways to have a tattoo removed. This gentle and effective tattoo removal method will successfully lift the ink from your tattoo without irritation. This is especially nice since it is near your eye and the skin is extremely delicate.

Simple Procedure: The procedure is done nearly identical to how the initial tattoo was applied in the first place. However, saline rather than pigment is used.

Safe: Many other tattoo removal methods come with inherent risks, such as irritation, scarring, and more. Saline eyebrow tattoo removal does not have any of these risks and is a safe way to have tattoos lightened or removed.

  • Immediately after each treatment, the area will appear quite red, or sometimes the color of the pigment being removed. We clean the treated area but do allow a slight pooling of fluids to encourage coagulation and the formation of a crust. The appearance is initially very similar to that of a scraped knee. The redness will subside after a few days. We will provide you with all the aftercare instructions as well as an aftercare kit.

  • Li-FT solution relies on your body’s natural healing mechanism to gently lift the pigment up and out to the surface of your skin. Laser tattoo removal involves the application of bursts of heat to break up large pigment particles which are then absorbed from within your body. Laser tattoo removal can also cause pigment to be pushed deeper and underneath the scar tissue that it creates. In this case, tattoo may appear lighter but it is still present underneath the scar tissue. This may affect the ability to apply a new tattoo or permanent makeup pigment in the future. In addition, the heat damage caused by laser tattoo removal may cause permanent damage to your melanocytes (pigment-producing cells), which is why it is common to see a white “ghost image” of a tattoo removed by laser.
